KMTC March 2026 Intake Poster

Media Release: KUCCPS Opens Application for Kenya Medical Training College Programmes

Nairobi, January 7, 2026The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened application process for placement to Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) for the March 2026 intake. The application period will run from January 7 to January 27, 2026.

The launch of the application process marks the beginning of the 2026 phased university and college student placement process.

Qualified Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) holders are invited to log into the KUCCPS online application system and pick available KMTC Diploma and Certificate programmes subject to meeting minimum requirements.

Available programmes, institutions, minimum requirements and application guidelines are available on the KUCCPS application portal students.kuccps.ac.ke.

The 2025 KCSE examination cohort will have an opportunity to apply for the September 2026 intake, which will open in the coming phases.

For the KMTC March 2026 intake, 21,774 vacancies are available in 36 Diploma and Certificate programmes offered in 98 KMTC campuses across the country.

The Universities Act, 2012 mandates KUCCPS to coordinate placement of students to universities and colleges. The Act also requires the KUCCPS Board to establish criteria to enable students access the courses for which they applied taking into account the students’ qualifications and listed priorities.

For this year’s intake, KMTC has recommended lowering of the minimum subject requirement in Biology/Biological Sciences for the Certificate in Health Insurance Management Programme, from a minimum of D+ to a minimum of D (plain). The revision of minimum requirements cannot compromise the quality of training since respective professional bodies ensure that KMTC meets the required standards during training.

With current reforms in health services including automation and implementation of the Social Health Insurance, students graduating with relevant qualifications have an advantage  when seeking employment in health facilities.

The Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme is meant to prepare health workers to support the roll-out of the Social Health Insurance, which is a key programme being implemented under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. KMTC offers the two-year programme in its Bondo, Chwele, Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyamache, Nyeri, Rachuonyo, Rera and Webuye campuses.

Last year, the government allocated funds to the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) for supporting students admitted into KMTC programmes. To be eligible for the funding, one must have been placed into KMTC by KUCCPS. “We encourage students to apply for placement into KMTC to benefit from the funding.”

All applications must be submitted online through the KUCCPS application system. Physical KCSE certificates or result slips are not required, as the KUCCPS system can verify applicants’ qualifications without the physical documents. “Nobody, including cybercafé attendants, should request placement applicants to provide their KCSE certificates or result slips. To be safe, applicants seeking Internet services are advised to visit Huduma Centres. We have trained staff working in cybercafes located inside Huduma Centres,” said Dr. Wahome.

Dr Wahome also said KUCCPS had noted a worrying trend of fake social media pages and online accounts impersonating the Placement Service and even the CEO. With the help of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), some of the culprits have already been arrested.

“We are sending out a warning that KUCCPS is working with relevant Government agencies  to track the impersonators,” said Dr. Wahome. “In this era of new technology, we have heightened surveillance to safeguard the interest of our stakeholders and the public at large.”

Further, KUCCPS advises students seeking medical training in private institutions to ensure that they are accredited to offer the programmes, by checking with the Commission for University Education (CUE) and Technical and Vocational Training Authority (TVETA). KUCCPS can also advise and guide such students. For more information, applicants are advised to monitor updates on the KUCCPS website www.kuccps.ac.ke. Enquiries should be directed via email to info@kuccps.ac.ke or through the KUCCPS phone numbers 020 5137400/0713924444.
